Mike Balan is gracing the Mr. Olympia Mens Physique Showdown stage for the second time this year. The show that qualified him for the showdown was the Chicago Pro 2016. Below are some questions that Mike Personally answered for Men’s Physique News in our Olympia 2016 Series.
How old were you when you first started competing? what was your first show? and what placing did you get?
I started in 2012 at the age of 26yr. My first show was 2012 NPC New England Championships. I won class A and also won the Overall
What got you in to this sport?
A recent relationship split up started it. I needed something to focus on to keep me busy, I was also getting bored with just being a average joe in the gym and needed a new challenge.
What advice can you give to anyone out there that wants to step into the sport?
Make sure you complete your education before anything. It’s easy to let it take over your life and you can easily forget about other more important things. This is something I’ve learned the hard way.
Do you do Cheat meals during your prep? and how close to the show are they cut out?
Yes I do! You’ll see post them on IG from time to time. I estimate them to be around 3500-4000cal. They are a very useful tool to keep your metabolism on fire and keep you sane while dieting. My thing I like to do is have the exact same cheat meal every week to keep things constant, just like my prep food I keep my cheats consistent. It’s the only why you know what works and isn’t working. My last show the Chicago Pro I cut them 4 weeks out. This Olympia prep they were cut 6 weeks out. There’s no set time I cut them out, it all depends where I’m at body fat wise.
Whats your meal of choice post show?
