Raymond Akinlosotu is the new champ for the Lenda Murray pro . Last years champ Otis Hooper (Unable to compete this year) was proud to be able to pass the baton to Ray Akins. Now Ray after being a pro for 2 years is now on the road to the Mr. Olympia Stage. After the show, we were able to catch up with Ray and ask him a few questions for this exclusive interview.
Congratulations on your win at the Lenda Murray and qualifying for the Olympia. How does it feel knowing you will be on the Olympia stage this year?
Thank you so much! It feels great to know that I have qualified for the Olympia. It’s been a dream of mine for years to one day earn the right to grace that legendary stage.
Now that you are qualified, what made you want to want to compete again at the Baltimore Pro before the Olympia?
I really enjoyed competing in the Baltimore Fitness Expo last year and was definitely looking to compete in it this year. I was raised in Maryland, so competing in this show gives my friends and family an opportunity to see me compete and also show support.
Competing in consecutive shows can be tough. How do you prepare yourself physically and mentally to hit the stage twice in a week span?
Mentally, I focus on the things that need to be done to be successful. I feel that if you take care of the things you can control, everything else will fall into place. Physically, I kept it moving. I didn’t take much of a rest away from training. I enjoyed a cheat meal after the Lenda Murray show and got right back to work.
Do you plan to keep competing this season or take off and focus on the Olympia?
I plan to take time off and solely focus on my Olympia prep.
What is the biggest piece of advice you have for newly turned IFBB Pro competitors?
My biggest piece of advice to a new IFBB Pro would be to be patient with your growth and development. I would also advise to always remember what you love about bodybuilding to keep you grounded.
