Road to the 2017 Prestige Crystal Cup

Each week, the season creeps closer to it’s finish. With only a few shows left to compete in this year, the chances of earning an Olympia contract become slimmer and slimmer. The lesser the chances however, the greater the competition at these final shows. This weekend, on July 29th, the Men’s Physique Pros will try and prove themselves worthy of a first place finish at the 2017 IFBB Prestige Crystal Cup in Boca Raton, Florida.

Last year’s Crystal Cup winner, Diogo Montenegro, will not be returning to defend his championship, as he is already qualified for this year’s Olympia. This leaves the door open for a new Crystal Cup champion to be crowned. With only a few returning competitors from last year’s show, this lineup is sure to spotlight some new faces.

One familiar face that will take the stage this weekend nevertheless, is Fernando Rios. Rios has been a recurring name this season after finishing 6th at the highly contested Miami Muscle Beach Pro, and qualifying for the Olympia by dethroning two-time champ Chase Savoie at the Puerto Rico Pro. Although he is already Olympia qualified, Rios could walk out of with another top place finish in Florida this weekend.

Mohammed Buqambar is currently sitting in a traffic jam in the Olympia Point Standings as he is tied for 8th place with three other pro competitors. Buqambar is seven points shy of cracking the top three in the point standings, so a 1st place finish will be the ultimate goal. No stranger to high caliber competition however, Buqambar finished 8th at the New York Pro, one of the biggest shows of the year, and should finish near the top this weekend.

A few other pros to watch out for at the Prestige Crystal Cup are Florida residents, Geobanny Paula, Antony Portland and Jean Walkins Louis. Paula and Portland are both bringing what looks to be their best to the stage, with #CHECKIN’s that can be seen on the MPN Instagram page. Luis, who is currently 23rd in the Olympia Point Standings, will be returning to Boca Raton in hopes of a better quality finish this year.

Only a few shows remain this season, but the competition is only getting better. Can another name be added to the Olympia line-up, or will Fernando Rios find himself in another 1st place finish? For more information on the show visit:
